Kirk's impromptu Primary Talk

Okay so I probably wouldn't be nominated as the Mother of the year because I forgot about Kirk's primary talk. I seriously can't recall that Kirk had an assignment to speak in primary today. So the primary teacher asked Kirk if he had a talk ready and he says "yes". He gets up to the microphone ans says "I really like my toys, I like playing with pirates, and I like transformers, but I don't like Star Wars anymore.....ect...." they had to stop him and say thank you Kirk for sharing this with us. I heard all of this third hand of course. Someone told Dan's Mom at church and then she called and told us about it. I was mortified. I can't believe I sent him with out a prepared talk. You do have to give him credit though, for a sunbeam to stand up unprepared and talk in front of the whole primary all by himself. I guess I'm just relived he only talked about the toys he likes and not something more embarrassing! I just had to blog about this cute little story before I forgot. I'll be blogging about the sales conference that I went on with Dan a little later when I have some more time. In the meantime I'm making a new commitment to try to not forget important things like my children's primary talks. With Kirk's personality he might be sharing alittle bit toooo much info.

Kate's Last Soccer Game

Kate with her cousin Alexandra. The enjoyed playing on the same team this year!

Kate's last soccer game was yesterday and she did great. She's been wanting to get a goal all season long, and has had some really, really close calls. Yesterday was the closest to date. It was right there just about to go in, if she would have followed through it would have made. We told her it was close enough to count. She was really proud of herself. She's made so much progress this year, it's been neat to see her go from being very timid, to getting right in there and going for the ball. Here are some pictures of her and her team.

Kate celebrating the last game of the season with her team at McDonald's. Thanks Mike and Shauntel for treating to girls. My brother Mike did a really awesome job of coaching the girls. It was a fun season, and Kate already can't wait to play again in the fall.

Our little bird's nest

We have a new neighbor. A little bird familiy has made a nest and laid a tiny blue egg with brown speckles. The two birds seem like an odd pair, becuase they don't look like the same species. I'm not sure what kind of birds they are, but they both are faithful at sitting on their egg. They rarely ever leave the nest. When we get to close to the nest the birds fly off of the egg and start to cherp like crazy at us. I've taken the hint and I try to keep the kids away from the front bush. The bird doesn't seem to mind me taking pictures of it from inside the house. This picture is the view from my dinning room window. The kids enjoy pulling up a chair to bird watch. She just seems to stare right back at them.

Kate's Cinderella Night, and Kirk's Pirate Appearance

Friday was a super fun day for us. Kirk got to participate in a small way in Dan's brother Michael's proposal to his girlfriend Haley. Yes, it's official and we can finally talk about it he's getting married on July 31st. We've all been so excited, and I was especially excited to help him in his proposal. He did a scavenger hunt on Saturday with her, but used Kirk to deliver the invitation of a pirate theme treasure hunt. Kirk had recently had a pirate party so we had a pirate costume all ready to go. I sewed the parrot to his shirt so it would look like it was standing on his shoulder. We made the invitation to the scavenger hunt so that is looked old by burning the edges. Michael came home from work at lunch time to help Kirk deliver it. He of course hid while Kirk went up to the door. He was a little timid so Kate went with him. We had practiced what he's say, but when he got up there he got shy and didn't say anything. Luckily the letter was self explanatory, but he still looked cute. Then that night Kate and I went on one of our first Mom, Daughter dates. Layton High was putting on Cinderella for their dinner theater. I saw the advertisement and thought that Kate would really enjoy going. We were lucky because we got the last two tickets. So I went to Layton High on Thursday with all three kids to buy them. It turns out the the effort of piling all the kids into the car and searching for the tickets and the high school paid off. The night was so much fun, and Kate had a really wonderful time. At one point during the production the step mother was trying to figure out who Cinderella was when she was dancing with the prince at the ball. Kate quite passionately and loudly for her yelled "It's your family", immediately the shrugged her shoulders like she had remembered there was a theater full of people around her. It was totally adorable, and I was glad she was so into the play. So here are some pictures of the kids. Here's Kate with Cinderella. The cast served us dinner. We had steak and Kate cleaned her plate. Everyone on our table was impressed that she could eat her whole steak. Our kids are definitely good meat eaters! She gets that from her mom.

Finished Ogden 1/2 Time 2:08 (according to my GPS)

Yes, I survived the half marathon today. I don't know why I was so nervous. I happened to have a fabulous running day. I found while I was training some days I felt great, and other's not so much. Luckily today I felt awesome. I was seven miles in before I even looked at my mileage on my gps. Usually by seven I'm really starting to feel tired, but today I was just enjoying the run so much. When I first started out everyone was passing me. It started to get to me I wanted to speed up, but I kept to a safe pace because I didn't want to go out to hard and hit a wall. I'm really glad I took that approach because I enjoyed the experience so much more. I found another runner who had a steady pace like mine and we talked for a couple of miles. I think that really helped me keep steady, and get my mind off of the mileage. Then she needed to walk so I pressed onward and pumped up my tunes to keep me motivated. I felt great as I was coming out of the Ogden canyon. At this point I started to pass some people who had gone out to hard in the beginning. That felt good and was alot of motivation to keep up my pace. Then Dan and the kids saw me just a I was starting out into the Ogden park. It was amazing how much energy it gave me just to see some supportive faces. I was so happy to wave to my family and show them that I was still going strong. At this point in the race I wish I would have pushed a little bit more. The walk way is narrow so it was dificult to get a good pace because I didn't have as much space to get around the other runners. I also thought I had to run all the way up 12th street, so I didn't want to push it to hard. By the time I was finished with the walkway I could see the Ogden Temple spires. I was just one mile from the finish, much closer than I realized. At this point I was still feeling great and felt like I had some more in me. I tried to speed up my pace to a 9:00-9:30 pace from my conservative 9:45-10:00 minute pace. I saw my parents as I ran passed the Temple, and then Dan was about a half mile from the finish. This really helped with my adrenaline, and then I pushed through to finish strong. I have to admit I enjoyed the entire race. It felt great to run steady, not needing to stop. I was nervous about finishing because I've never done a 13 mile run before, but my body was able to respond when on some of my training runs I wasn't as successful. Afterwards I got a horrible stomach ache. I'm not use to eating Gu's on my run and it did on number on me, but that's starting to feel better now. I'm glad the half is behind me but I'm afraid I've turned into a running junkie because I can't wait to train for another one soon! By the way when I finished the clock said 2:10 but I was actually faster because of the few minutes it took for me to cross at the startong line. I'm really proud of 2:08 because 2:10 was my minimum goal, that's the pace I've been training at. I've got picture's but we don't have our camera on hand right now, so I'll post some soon. Glad it was a good running day for me.

No St. George Marathon for me this year!

Okay so I found out last Friday that I didn't get picked to run in St. George. I was actually shocked. I knew it would be about 50/50 chance, but I really thought I'd get picked. I was really disappointed at first but I'm fine now. With the refunded marathon fee, I went out and did a little retail therapy. I bought some curtains for my kitchen windows. The weekend was great though. I love mother's day. It was wonderful. Dan made me breakfast and got the kids all ready for church, and even made a cake all before 8:30 am! It was so nice to have him home on Sunday morning to help. Then He and his Dad and brother in-law made our families dinner. After that we headed to my Mom's to visit. I received some lovely gifts, and am so blessed to have such darling children. After church Kirk was excited to tell me something. He said "Mommy I need to tell you a secret," then he whispered in my ear "you are my angel". It was the cutest. The kids showered me with cards, hugs, and kisses. I LOVE MOTHER'S DAY!
